Challenges
Co-Dependencies of Various Platform-Based Features
Defining interface requirements for different features initially posed a unique challenge, as each feature was developed independently without considering interface compatibility with other features. To overcome this, a comprehensive functional architecture for the features had to be created, illustrating all interdependencies among features as well as interactions with external system platforms. Additionally, the ISO-26262 standard for safety requirements was strictly adhered to throughout the problem-solving process.

Defining Requirements and Modeling Architectures
Defining Requirements and Modeling Architectures
To achieve the goal with maximum efficiency, the functional leads were first contacted to prevent misunderstandings that could lead to working in the wrong direction. This revealed co-dependencies that were not specified by the provided stakeholder requirements. This allowed for the proactive and sustainable specification of interface requirements for the functions, which were later implemented through the modeling of various architectures. Regular meetings between functional leads were held to collaboratively develop the architecture and requirements.
Current State Analysis::
- Understanding the functions and their role within the overall platform.
- Analyzing safety requirements for the functions.
- Proactively educating functional leads about dependencies of other functions on their function.
Requirement Definition:
- Creating dedicated interface requirements for each function.
- Regular coordination with functional leads regarding any new developments or changes to the platform.
Architecture Modeling:
- Developing functional architectures at the function level.
- Creating a comprehensive platform-based functional architecture to illustrate the dependencies between functions in an overview.
- Creating a high-level architecture to depict the hardware-software interface and dependencies with external systems.
- Developing a context diagram to relate various functions to each other.
- Creating a state diagram to show the states of the entire system.
- Developing a high-level sequence diagram to illustrate the sequence of individual functions.
- Creating a sequence diagram to depict the overall system process, including reset mechanisms.
Results
Creating Sustainable Value
The developed interface requirements and the resulting functional overall architecture for the functional interfaces created significant added value for the entire platform. The dependencies and the necessary communication between functional areas were clearly highlighted.
By implementing the interface architecture and associated requirements, we established new communication pathways within the customer project, which will make the project significantly more efficient, especially in the safety-critical areas.
