Developing a Systematic Approach that Incorporates Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Functional Safety
The greatest challenge was to develop a systematic approach that integrates aspects of systems engineering, functional safety, and cybersecurity while adhering to required standards. This approach needed to be reusable across various functions and define the processes for these areas of expertise.

Defining and Modeling Processes
Our solution involved developing processes for each aspect of systems engineering, functional safety, and cybersecurity required during the development of a function, such as processes for item definition, TARA (Threat Analysis and Risk Assessment), and HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment). We considered cybersecurity and functional safety standards, as well as various norms and guidelines (NHTSA, SAE, etc.). The entire approach and processes were modeled in Enterprise Architect, and a detailed presentation was created to explain how the processes were developed, how they function, and how the various standards were adhered to.

- Created, modeled, and documented the necessary processes from a systems engineering perspective, such as vehicle architecture and product requirement documents.
- Created, modeled, and documented the necessary processes from a functional safety perspective, such as safety analyses and safety concepts.
- Created, modeled, and documented the necessary processes from a cybersecurity perspective, such as TARA and cybersecurity architecture.
- Created, modeled, and documented the processes required for sensor setup.
Results
Automotive Development Approach: Integrated Safety
We successfully developed an approach with the necessary processes for developing a function in accordance with systems engineering, functional safety, and cybersecurity. The approach meets automotive industry standards and guidelines and automatically generates traceability between the various required work products.
This approach with defined processes enables a high degree of reusability across all levels of automation (e.g., SAE Levels 0-5). It facilitates reviews, assessments, and certifications. The approach supports impact analysis for change requests and simplifies early error detection during the development stage.
