Challenges

Traffic Assist Development per ISO 26262

The greatest challenge in developing a driver assistance system function is achieving the desired outcome while simultaneously ensuring safety and compliance with the ISO 26262 safety standard.

Solution Implemented

Defining Requirements and Modeling Architectures

Defining Requirements and Modeling Architectures

Our solution involved following our innovative top-down approach, where we developed our system within a predefined road stretch scenario. Additionally, the operational design domain of the system was defined. Since we had no stakeholder requirements, we had to make assumptions and create a system element-out-of-context. According to the customer's wishes, the Traffic Assist function was developed down to the physical architecture and requirements, as well as the functional and technical safety concepts.

Concept Design & Idea Management

  • Creation and documentation of Item Definition, including use case diagrams, road route scenarios, and the operational design domain
  • Creation and documentation of HARA

Implementation & Development

  • Creation and documentation of Functional Architecture and Functional Requirements
  • Creation and documentation of Logical Architecture and Logical Requirements
  • Creation and documentation of Physical Architecture and Physical Requirements
  • Creation and documentation of the System Context Diagram and Lifecycle Phases
  • Creation and documentation of safety analyses (FTA, FMEA)
  • Creation and documentation of the Functional Safety Concept and the associated safety mechanisms
  • Creation and documentation of the Technical Safety Concept and the associated safety mechanisms

Results

Traffic Assist optimized for ISO 26262

Through our collaboration, another innovation step in the ADAS field was achieved. The Traffic Assist function was improved at the system level in accordance with the ISO 26262 standard.

By implementing the physical architecture, associated requirements, as well as the FSC and TSC, we were able to advance the customer project and open the door to further development at the ECU level.
