Challenges

Development of an ECU Power Supply Management System

Addressing the complex functional safety landscape of an ASIL-D energy management system involved overcoming numerous challenges. These included developing a system with redundant power supply from two sources, distributing energy to the control unit and other systems such as sensors and actuators, monitoring power and temperature, and communicating with external systems, all while ensuring compliance with ISO 26262 standards.

Defining Requirements and Modeling Architectures

Defining Requirements and Modeling Architectures

Our solution involved developing a system architecture and system requirements to meet all stakeholder demands.

Additionally, we facilitated the development and documentation of the safety analysis by supporting our client throughout the safety analysis process to ensure a robust system architecture with integrated safety mechanisms. We also supported the hardware, software, and testing domains in the ongoing development and refinement.

Concept Design & Idea Management

  • Creation and documentation of the item definition for the drive platform
  • Creation and documentation of HARA (Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment) for the drive platform

System Engineering Department

  • Consulting and support in the creation and implementation of functional and technical safety concepts in accordance with ISO 26262

Implementation & Development

  • Consulting and support in the creation of safety analysis
  • Creation and documentation of system architecture and system requirements concerning power supply from power sources
  • Creation and documentation of system architecture and system requirements for control and communication with external systems
  • Creation and documentation of system architecture and system requirements concerning monitoring mechanisms
  • Creation and documentation of system architecture and system requirements related to the power supply of external components
  • Creation and documentation of system architecture and system requirements concerning the monitoring of power supply, current, and temperature within the ECU

Results

Optimization of Energy Management for Steer-by-Wire

Through our collaboration, a system architecture and system requirements for the ECU's energy management system were developed.

Consequently, the steer-by-wire system has been enhanced by an improved energy management system and safety mechanisms. Close cooperation with the hardware, software, and testing teams provided valuable support for ongoing development.

Our collaboration led to the successful completion of the project, with a TÜV assessment yielding excellent results. Thanks to the development of the system architecture and system requirements, we were able to create an efficient energy management system that will advance the project in the long term.
