Cybersecurity Concept for Complex ECU Architecture
Our task was to develop a cybersecurity concept as well as software and hardware requirements for an ADAS ECU that consisted of three SoCs and an Ethernet switch. Additionally, we were responsible for creating test cases for these requirements and overseeing the corresponding tests.

Based on a cybersecurity concept at the component level, cybersecurity concepts were developed for each of the three SoCs and the switch.
These cybersecurity concepts included standard cybersecurity controls such as Secure Boot and SecOC, as well as OEM-specific controls like Secure Token Authorization. Since the ECU was part of an Ethernet network, Ethernet security controls like MACSec and IPSec were implemented. Additionally, the switch was designed to be controlled and diagnosed by one of the SoCs, which required the development of secure communication between these two devices.
Subsequently, cybersecurity software and hardware requirements were derived from these concepts, and corresponding test cases were created for each software requirement. These test cases were handed over to the testing department, and progress on the tests was monitored in collaboration with them.
Results
Successful Testing and Compliance Achieved
The cybersecurity concepts we developed met all cybersecurity standards. All the work products (WPs) we created were ISO 21434-compliant. We exited the project once most of the test cases were successfully completed, which facilitated a smooth transition of the remaining activities to internal engineers.
Our knowledge of the domain let us define cyber resilient solutions for complex problems (like e.g. SoC to Switch secure communication) in minimal time, which saved the OEM a lot of time and budget. Moreover, our experience with the ISO21434 standard let us create ISO compliant WPs preserving the traceability, which drastically sped up the development process.
